Finishing Italy up before another

January 9, 2016

number rolls around the calendar. that was a good idea too bad i didn’t make it but today I am sick with a cold that’s gone on for weeks. i am on meds so feel pretty good now except for a slight headache. leaving Lucca our next stop was Pistoia another of the walled cities that fought with each other. a part of the roman aqueduct system scattered through out Italy

there are plenty of stores and one interesting museum devoted to a native son sculptor Marino Marini. we were blown away by his work and discovered another branch in florence. he worked a lot with horses and it’s one of the wonderful things about traveling. how cool is that. see Marino Marini Foundation for locations.

due to the craziness of the world and religions we were planning to take our middle granddaughter and her sister to europe this summer. we planned Paris but that’s out for security reasons and Greece due to refugees so that leaves Italy unless something happens there.

america……… Rt 66

November 6, 2014

as we leave  ft.smith in our rear view mirror heading west muskogee ok rises in our windshield and the big 5 Civilized tribes of the Cherokee and their annual labor day pow wow excitement rose. we had heard that 60,000 people attend this event. woo who some real photo ops. it was an easy trip only a few hours drive. it always amazes me how the land changes from state to state.

muskogee isn’t much even though the merle haggard song ‘okie from muskogee‘ has been around for years it hasn’t made the town any bigger or brighter. but what we ran into was a scheduling conflict with the dance. the only daytime dance performed was the Gourd dance. i had a chance to talk with the dancers before hand and found it interesting, it’s a sacred warrior dance danced by veterans or their relatives. one fellow was dancing for his grandfather.

mary was taking photos along with us, corey and i, and was asked if she was an official photographer because this is a sacred dance. we had asked the officials but they didn’t have an objections to us taking photos and everybody else was snapping away with their pads and phones so she sat down and stopped. too bad because she has a good eye. oh well

that evening we didn’t go back to the dancing because we were disappointed with the vendors, more like a garage sale than native crafts. ugh looking at the map we decided to explore Rt 66.

abandoned school………… but not lonely

August 21, 2013

Life is pretty wonderful at least mine has been so far yea there has been plenty of praise and blame in my life gains and loss but that is just the way life is. i don’t want to brag about because if i get snug something comes along a smacks me upside my head to get my attention.

these golden years i ask myself, walking up lying in bed taking inventory feeling new pains every day, oh that’s new ‘hello there’. maybe i should start giving them names as i did with my mental states that arose because pushing them away wasn’t working so i thought might as well get intimate with them. that seems to give them less power over me and they become less interested in bothering me.

i haven’t been doing much shooting everything seems to be the same old everything. i got tired of my lighting and no one seemed interested in working with me. had two different maternity women contact me/us to shoot some belly pics but never heard from them again. wtf

i always peruse craigslist looking for opportunities which are getting slimmer every day, but sometimes gold shows up. it’s just not polished and shiny, but if one is open one can scrape off the dross and find the jewel. so it’s been this week  i answered and adv for a bondage photographer that was a little off my speciality but i do dark pretty good so what the hell.

we talked and what he wanted it seemed interesting but you never know with craigslist people have been killed using that forum. there have been people whom i just didn’t feel right about so never followed up. he does have a portfolio on musecube where i stated but left them.

mark we will call him is an urban explorer working in underground environments and abandoned buildings. huh that’s something different for me can’t bring a lot of lights with me there.  so we agreed to meet uptown and i pack a camera along with an off camera flash, my Yongnuo flash triggers which are one of the biggest bargains i have, thanks david hobby from the strobist for the suggestion and  some spare batteries and off i went.

this is what i saw when i got there

scaffolding

hi mark this is the scaffolding you want me to climb? think you can do it? i am not sure. i’ll climb up first and show you how.

now mark wasn’t carrying a 20 lb backpack but all 6’3 of  him went up fine and i followed with all my 5’7 frame.  it’s right on a busy street  and we had to watch out for cops but i made up thinking now i probably won’t do that location again.

first walk up the crossbars then scoot over the horizontal one pull yourself up one foot on the building  reach up and pull yourself onto top. got it? sure

it’s an abandoned school and pretty dark on the ground floor. walking up the internal staircase was a challenge, flash light is another thing to bring along, oh stupid i’ve got one on my phone. we made it up to one of the top floors mark assured me he’d been in all the rooms and the floors were safe. best to be very watchful were you stepped lots of fallen debris all over.

he began to undress as we talked about the shot he had envisioned, you go up there on another landing, which i had to walk up a fallen flat wrought iron railing. before i did that i set up my 580 flash and wireless receiver on the landing below wrapped with blackwrap leaning on debrie pied on the floor.

here is our shooting area

shooting area

my perch is up one landing.  this is a first one without flash firing

so now the lower flash starts to work not sure why it didn’t in the beginning but oh well.

nude on staircase

nude on staircase

i am sort of working in the dark as far as exposure or can you say guessing? the led display on the back of my camera wasn’t much help. seeing the bottoms of marks feet covered with ash really picked up the light. but i was beginning to feel relaxed and making pictures. so now i can move around from my perch,

i am a ninja photographer.

i love this shot with the sun light in frame left and through broken window mixed with strobe. so now time to move strobe and me back to my perch.

now with all the broken glass underneath our feet i’ve always wanted to do a broken window shot so here it is.

then it was time to head home. peering over railing in search of the fuzz, none over we go.

mary was upset with me going off somewhere that was dangerous without her knowing where i was going and she was right, suppose something happen to us? now i am going to make sure she knows where i am. i am such a kid.

i was surprised not to find any crack vile’s broken on the floor but what crack head would climb that scaffolding to get high, just some dummy photographer.

Jene and Mary Youtt’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen Art Festival’ exhibition

May 16, 2013

Here it is another Hell’s Kitchen Art Festival studio tour. This year because of movie commitments i decided to exhibit my work in a local restaurant called braai , 329 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019 (212) 315-3315. One can just stop by and see my work without buying anything but i’d hope you contact me and buy a picture to hang in your house to cheer you up.Screen shot 2013-05-08 at 6.40.49 PM

Very interesting menu and a great luncheon special at $12.95 which mary and i hope to try very soon.  The place is very open and airy with their rear skylight along with a friendly staff.

Mary is also showing at Basmati Restaurant  – 764 Ninth Avenue (btw. 51st and 52nd St) as part of the Artist tour. see her link for pictures of her work.

I’ve been involved with the Hell’s Kitchen Festival from the beginning and putting together an event like this isn’t an easy thing to do. It’s an all volunteer event usually held around the Ninth Ave Food festival weekend to draw more people. The Hells Kitchen Guild Association publishes a magazine highlighting the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood and artist living in the area.

At one time this neighborhood was the home to many actors who worked in the many local theaters. Since redevelopment in the neighborhood due to it’s central location a project in the 70’s called Manhattan Plaza was formed using HUD  monies providing a certain percentage of apartments to people involved in the performing arts. This has been an anchor to the neighborhood and performing arts community providing affordable housing and a decent place to live.

Local artist have a very difficult time finding affordable housing in this multi million dollar housing market. Across the street from me Verizon has sold part of it’s building to real estate developers converting the top floors into multi million condo’s. The hospital behind me and next door is being converted to luxury apartment rentals.

So the Art of money seems to be the new American art form along with our local PBS station being the riches station in the network while providing no local produced shows. I sometimes wonder did i go into the wrong business ? Does anyone care about the arts anymore?

From my limited perspective i see some wonderful art streaming along the internet inspiring all who visit it. But that’s just it one has to go looking for it and in this fragmented society we don’t seem to be doing much exploring. This maybe the final frontier, we have found the enemy and it is us.

I hope not.

trying something new for me, sensual couple shoot

October 28, 2012

the constant quest in my work is finding the right people to work with me, considering my limited budget, so what i find mostly are people just starting out who are willing to work for what i can afford. free is good but only worth what the value of the final product. sometimes the magic works sometimes it doesn’t. this couple was willing to experiment with me and since they are intimate what i was asking wasn’t much of a push, just basically be yourself with a tog in the room. doesn’t everyone have strobes flashing every once in a while concentrating on their partner. very natural setting.

i’ve no idea if this works more than my previous post where i am working on a different story. this setting isn’t what i preferred but it was where we were. i’d much rather had a living room or bedroom for a more natural feeling. from the lack of comments here considering the traffic on the site i don’t know what to think you think. so like most of life lived i am working in the dark.  i guess it’s appropriate since this is personal work. i am the one who needs to be happy and if i haven’t learned that by now i should just go off to a cave and sit down to rest.

embrace

there isn’t much i can say that doesn’t appear in these images they are posed from my suggestions. but mostly i tried to be a fly on the wall giving them a premise for them to work with and watched.

the double copyright is because i am working off their CD and running a action in PS because i didn’t want to resize the images. oh well lazy tog.  what i wanted to do with this session is explore the eroticism of a couple without being graphic or pornographic.

tenderness

touching tasting

tension

let us not forget we have a couple here so it’s time to see the other side of love

white thigh highs

and the final one here as she seems to really enjoy being touched

wonder what she’s thinking

who knows why people come to this site and see the images. do they all wear raincoats and sit in darken rooms? well as we wait for Sandy to come a calling we might be soon wearing raincoats ourselves. so before the power goes out i’ll post this then relax reading the sunday times and wonder who the hell are these people they are talking about. has the world gone to the dogs? i for one like dogs so maybe i should rephrase that to cats. dogs are more loving i think than cats who seem not to need very much from us. just my humble opinion.

so if i am able to record tenderness between people then i’ve been successful if not at least no one was harmed in the making of these images. i hope you my readers have enjoyed your valuable time spent here.

this weeks work or play, whatever you call it

June 1, 2012

it’s exhausting and exciting creating. so exhausting setting up the studio from a living area but that’s the only way i can afford to make images with people. maybe i am going about this the wrong way but i really don’t know of another way. it’s like the rest of my life learn a trade then go about practice it. some become masters, i am considered  pretty good at what i do but don’t ask me.

all i see are the missed shots, the ones i could have done better, i must have funny eyes in order to see this way or could it be my irish heritage? but it is what it is and i do best i can, as Phoo would say ‘with a very small brain.’

i’ve been meaning to write again about apple and so many other things that course through my brain, for a small one it’s pretty active. but i just finished up on this photo shoot, editing and doing the post production that saves my ass. i can only fix the fixable nothing can save stupidity.

i contact a few people a week on model mayhem some who are looking for work some want to be’s looking for a professional photographer, makes me smile some i just shake my head at. but some are sincere so you never know what will walk through the door. this is what we start with.

semi nude beginning

not impressed? me neither but wait these’s more, i must admit michelle does have some bumps on her forehead which i softened in PS 4 as my PS 6 trial is over. i’ll probably buy 6 for some of it’s features but not today.

over the shoulder,

what i wanted to shoot  with this woman was lingerie but she didn’t have any outfits that matched other than this garter belt that i liked and i’ve none to share with her.

garter strap

so now what am i going to do? mary bought some hats weeks ago so i’d give this a try

almost a halo

thanks TJ Max but michelle brought her fur wrap which we used

rabbit fur

more fur fun

but see the spectral lens refractions, lighting problems all day but i include this image because i like michelle’s quality

i also had another new toy some satin fabric one of my  jobs was throwing out so i dragged that back to studio

white satin with nude

which reminds me of ‘Last tango in Paris’ and i’ve no idea why

waiting

now that’s a nice sandwich, as the say at the stage deli

i tried to keep things simple, well simple for me at least.  but i am pretty committed to learning to work with my white lightning strobes instead of my tungsten lighting. i should sell it , way too much space lost to stuff.

take care and good night, i’ll be gone for a week or so doing the tony’s to earn a few bucks for gas money for the guzzler. last weekend driving back from the shore a NJ trooper pulled in behind us, then along side until he was in front, just looking at the car. people do that because it’s not every day you see american history before your eyes.

Winkel & Balktick site survey, taking Jene Youtt along for the ride

May 11, 2012

well monday night i went to Winkel & Balktick production meeting for their forth coming event. we, mary and i have been to one before  but because of schedules we didn’t persue anything . mary isn’t interested in these large scale events hey i’ve been on the road with big rock & roll bands.i.e. the rolling stones so what could they throw at me that i hadn’t seen.

last weekend having gone to our opening at Annex 24 we were having breakfast in lancester pa at a bob evans restaurant  when the waitress got into a conversation about my tatoo and shared with us  she had been to a rock concert at watkins glenn where the dead, the band and the allman bros.played which i had worked on. red dog of the allman bros. had dosed me with LSD backstage so i sat out most of the show sitting on the front edge of stage right follow spot platform watching the show. i guess i was up about 50′ feet or so on the tower, but hey this was rock & roll.

but i digress from the meeting, i guess it was all that LSD i had taken in my youth.

the meeting/gathering got a late start but free beer was flowing and everyone was talking to each other getting to know whom ever.

loft

more group

but finally the meeting came to order when winkel & balktick made their presentation on the may party and described their upcoming events starting with the june weekend LAB event.

flappers

now we all introduced ourselves in sound bites and then off to see the new venue. they had a school bus for all of us which reminded me of ‘the merry pranksters’ and ken kesey considering the varied education levels of the group i am sure some of them knew who ken kesey was  but i remained confident none of them had enjoyed acid.

i must remind my readers i am not an event photographer nor do i ever hope to wake up as one. the bus was interesting i sat next to a fellow who introduced himself to a young woman sitting on the other side of me as ‘pirate’ then went on to describe his web site as, i am not sure exactly, as hate & bile where he planned to put his work on. at that point i was glad i hadn’t asked him on his introduction ‘where his ship was tied up’

old guys aren’t as interesting to talk to i guess, we don’t have much to contribute, sometimes just letting the conversation flow one can learn so much. so i just relaxed bouncing around brooklyn on my way to queens fooling around doing what i do, taking pictures.

inside of bus going to queens

pretty cool huh?

but we get to site and all get out in parking lot file into building and get taken on our tour

group portrait

no the elevator doesn’t work just a good photo op. then we wander around being shown the spaces so that we may get use ideas and come up with proposals, hey this is a business trip.

winkel

one of the spaces

let us not forget this is a deserted pfizer factory and who knows what they made there or what experiments may  have taken place in that building. i am not sure how to explain this picture as i as taking pictures of the walls and i discovered this on my cameras CF card. could these things still be wandering the halls when we were not aware of them?

strange creatures

hey i got home safely, even in the dead of night from queens on a nyc subway, leaving our friends where they belong.

We Are Participating in Cinco de mayo weekend ArtWalk in Lancaster, PA

May 3, 2012

where did my brain go this weekend, oh i lost it last night doing ‘Googles Utube Brandcast‘ at the Beacon theater. quite a technical presentation  as google people told audience members how to get the most of google, utube and brand association along with integration. woo hoo……………….lots of video wall images, spiffy stuff but no jetsons. this is the future, for whom the bells toll, you and me.

today arbitron.com contacted me as they are doing a radio and television survey but i was too old to participate, oh well i might as well just disappear……..  but wait……..  i can’t because mary and i will be participating in an  ArtWalk  in Lancaster PA. and the motel room is already paid for. prints are hanging and Annex 24 is expecting us to be there.

to get in the mood for writing i am listing to All That Jazz soundtrack where everything old is new again. i loved that movie but i work in theater a crazy place to earn a living. i really related to Joe Gideon as i knew people like him. what a life, what a death.

mary is excited as she always is going to these events but i am a bit more laid back, not that i don’t interact with people because i love to talk to people about anything and find conversation interesting in it’s self. as we were dropping off our pictures we met a man from Cape Town just passing through town from washington  dc traveling across america. so you never know what or whom you will meet by being open.

mary is bringing  her triptych

retrograd, shedding, cathexsis

since we dropped off more images than able to show for this artwalk because our work will be on exhibit for this summer and the Annex 42 wanted  pictures to replace any sold we brought a few extra. the gallery has a warehouse which is open to the public we thought why not.? saves us a trip down to deliver more.

objects of interest

Mary and I are excited in this summer long exhibit starting with First Friday’s Art Walk in Lancaster, PA.  Click here for a link to the galleries participating.   And what’s not better than strolling in and out of galleries and relaxing in local cafes.  We’ll be at Annex 24 Gallery, 24 West Walnut Street.  I do hope you can make it there, it’s sure to be fun from 5 – 9 pm.   When we dropped off our art last Friday, we had lunch at Rachel’s Cafe & Creperie.

hopefully we will find these images hanging but since we didn’t chose it will be  a surprise for us as well as the other visitors. cool.

ascending

toe shoes

sufi dancer

i am just bringing some dance images even though i am participating in the 4th annual Hell’s Kitchen Art Festival later this month May 18, thru 20th where i’ll be showing some of the Kyoto gallery 16×20″ images. as yet no venue has been set. this being nyc i can show nudes but who wants to buy nudes of other people unless they are on a calendar and i don’t expect too many auto mechanics at the art festival. but hey you never know.

ascending gets good reviews from women even buy it because it’s such an uplifting image. i love it myself but probably for different reasons. i am just happy when my work finds a good home, they are like my children. who doesn’t want the best for their children no matter who they are. here that sean?
