9/11 New York City rembered

November 24, 2021

Twenty years ago. I was working at the Essex hotel doing a press release, on what I don’t remember, the show never happened. Because of our location, W 57 between 7th ave and 6th avenues, being in the penthouse people would visit our location Saying a plane crashed into the World Center building then disappearing because one really couldn’t see anything from where we were. The staff came up and told the show was off and they were walking home because all traffic was limited and trains along with busses were at a standstill. I don’t remember who I worked with but there were only two of us so we started putting things away. It was just the two of us. We boxed the TV monitors then boxed the sound amplifiers and rolled everything into the center of the dance floor and took the elevators down to the ground floor and left the building.I lived a few blocks away so I went home. When I crossed 7th avenue I could see the smoke billowing into the sky. When I got home I turned on the TV news where I could see what happened or really what was going to happen.Having worked for CBS there were lots of tradies I sat through, like 12 hours of the Challenger blowing up, over and over. I think it was 12 hours before we went off the air.So the only living friend I had was my dog and her red ball. So we went to the park on 54th street and 12th avenue. Shadow loved chasing her ball. I always brought water for her in a foldable bowl which I carried in my pocket.A pair of F-something jets circled the island, NYC police boats crushed up and down the Hudson River and Apache Gunships flew overhead. I wondered who they were going to catch, the damage had already happened. The smell of burning flesh or garbage permeated the air I felt sorry for the poor souls affected. I hoped there were some survivors but looking down 12th avenue it didn’t look good.I knew NYC had changed maybe all of America or the world but here by my side was my faithful dog caring her ball in her mouth as we walked home. Yes, I could feel the pain of others but what could I do for them, then or now?So Shadow and I walked home-sharing our love between each other, what else is there? I remember Malcolm X’ saying “The Chicken’s have come home to roost. “So that’s my 2 cents

life in rock and roll ……continued

Blue Oyster Cult  toured with a big old Laser which they pointed on the drum symbols shining out in the audience. It was pretty cool but I was glad I wasn’t out there because it seemed awfully dangerous to me. Do lasers cause blindness? I liked some of their  songs like (Don’t fear) The reaper. #BlueOysterCult #DontFearTheReaper #The.

As I was walking backstage towards the lighting console  when I heard a crash from the Cults crew loading the laser into the wooden traveling crate. I just kept on going leaving some very angry troops to deal with the mess.

The whole tour was like that for me, one thing after another. This was my first tour out of SeeFactor having known Bob See since the Fillmore East where he was the technical director and I ran one of two follow spots with my friend Kenny Mednick.

Ted was crazy and I am not sure he still is but it’s rock and roll, his whole new is a little strange. After the show the roadies cleared the stage of our amps and they  loaded the truck. The truck was a 24’ with part of the bed cut away so we could go from the cab to the bunk beds in the box. There were four of us now traveling in the truck now me, and the equipment manager and two other fellows.

Zipping out of the forum on to the interstate  we found heavy traffic which pissed of the driving crew, I am not sure where our next gig  St. Lewis. The guy riding shotgun rolled down his window and threw his empty Heineken bottle at one of the cars on the interstate.Oh no this is what we were headed for I thought as I slipped into the back bunkbeds and closed my eyes, I had seen enough for today.

Arriving  late at night checking into our rooms I was paired with Craig the equipment manger. The hotel was jumping as we found out. Looking out our window the next morning St. Lewis was hosting a Shriner parade which was always a fun event. You know the Shriners wearing funny hats riding tiny motorcycles around in circles.

Craig taught me the “Ted trick”, Ted had a solo highlight which including breaking of a fish  bowl placed on his amp stack with Teds guitar sounds. Ted would do his solo and reach  the hugest note and bam magically the fish bowl would shatter while I bumped the lights to white.

The trick was Craig was off stage behind the amp line with a BB gun aimed at the fishbowl.  What was learned their were thin fish bows while some were thicker. One night we ran into the thicker one,   the trick didn’t work all the time. This night Ted did his run to his climax Craig fired the BB gun as I waited for my cue but nothing happened. Ted started his run again Craig fired again nothing. Ted looked over at him in panic an began his his run again while Craig grabbed a hammer and snuck behind the amps  and when Ted did his run again while Ted climaxed while Craig reached over the amps and hit the fishbowl BAM the fishbowl shattered and the audience cheered .

On to the next venue. Ted didn’t like my lighting he chewed me out for having blue lighting on the band to begin the set  while Ted was in red. Later I found out Ted didn’t like red. But he did like very young girls  I found out when I opened my hotel room door and Teds was in the next room. The hallway was full of very young girls waiting for an audience into Teds room.

I just went my way  down to get something to eat where more young ladies roamed around, Actually I think the hotel was full of young ladies.

Later the tour ended returning the equipment back to Seefactor NYC. Bob let me know I had been replaced with John O Watkins who lasted for many years. John O Watkins survived with Ted for many years while I moved on,

I moved where I don’t remember where, work is like that along with our minds. Years flow on we all moved somewhere. But through Facebook I found his son commenting on my posts but I didn’t know the difference between then. I remember John O  Watkins from the Fillmore East where he worked on the stage crew https://www.powellfuneralinc.com/obituary/john-watkins-jr but time and drugs had it’s effect on me as it did for so manny others.

But there was a facebook link from his son https://www.facebook.com/people/John-O-Watkins/100000699867566  showing his fathers history.

But their was his son John Watkins with his profile was picture of a guy in a T-shirt with a camera obscuring  his face.  How I am I gonna figure who’s who? But John had a picture posting some of his father press clippings made sense to me. Seems there is a dynasty in the here in the Watkins story.

Todays adventure

November 15, 2019
It has taken me months of exploring upgrades on my old Power tower cheese grater computer and today I found a way to load El Capitan which took most of the day. One of the macuser groups posted a link that didn’t work for me but led me down a dark path that exposed daylight in my search. Can I tell you how I did it? I am not sure because Apple has hidden how to download El Capitan because they want you to buy new, even if they give it away free. I had to buy Mavericks on eBay then explore how to upgrade to El Capitan rather unsuccessfully for months. But today I was a lucky now Safari works much better. Still Adobe Photoshop CS 6 is kaput because of Adobe action but I have CS 4 working but not the upgrade to CS 6 which I bought quite awhile ago. But some jerks posted the activation code on a free site and Adobe closed the code. Speaking with customer service, which is in INDIA I get nowhere. I guess it’s time to write to Adobe CEO and TECH VP maybe that will help. It worked with Canon repair problems I was having and I got my own, well maybe not my own, but it was a direct link to my free repair. I thought that was nice. I did buy a new camera which is my last one, I’ve sold my Hasselblad and given away some other stuff. But I still have way too much laying around. Maybe someday.

I did manage to solve todays problem after months of trying so it was a good day. Maybe other wonderful things are in store. Ya never know. Remember just keep trying .

A new beginning to an old life

October 26, 2019

Ok here it is Saturday and what have I done ? Years ago I started the day listening to a NJ collage radio station playing a Allen Watts teaching series tape. Today I listened to a Ram Dass CD teaching session.Hummmmm

Allen Watts started me on a long journey to find the lost little boy I had become. It’s not easy touching the elusive truth nor facing reality. I still have a hard remembering who I want to be or was.

I’ve decided since Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg are such creeps that I would write personal stuff on my Fuzzypictures web blog. It began by me posting my pictures but since I am not doing that right now I thought I post some remembrances of my life for a few chuckles. That way Zuckerberg won’t profit from my ramblings or know more about me.

A waste of time probably but at least I can listen to my breath while typing. Maybe some positive vibes or connections will appear. What else is there but to sit here listening to my breathing and not let my silly mind keep wandering distracting my breathing and listening. Silly mind takes the cake.

A lost adventure or moving on.

July 17, 2018

I’ve not been shooting much these days for various reasons, one having to do with lack of creative ideas, the other is my health. I just struggle some days to just get out bed, pain is exhausting. Then there the daily news feed about our glorious leader who because of his horrendous acts against humanity the press has to print his every outrageous word. The man is a con artist leading his family of crooks across our precious land raping and pillaging leaving only piles of burnt money .

But I digress from what I wanted to say today. My wife was using the house to update a friends portfolio. I do have a system off separating my used card in stacks then I edit out the bad ones and put the cards in a plastic bag so I have some idea what to reformat and use again.

Mary picked up a disk and saw that there were images on it and asked me about. I realized what with every thing else going on I hadn’t gone through this stack. I gave her an empty one from the plastic bag.

This young woman asked me to shoot some Shibari images of her. I saw she had some Yogi pictures in her portfolio so I’ve wanted some of that in my portfolio and said yes. She arrived and had this beautiful energy open to about anything. I turned on some lights and off we go

©4375

She found a T shirt in my closet and brought it too me and I said why don’t we cut it up with a razor. Yes. I always like to give people a prop and some directions if need be which helps relax them so this is a start.

_MG_4364

We shot a few images with this T shirt but the best of the lot is the first one here I think

_MG_4189

We also found this satin outfit and some cord rummaging around and Raylinn put this on which I think turned out lovely

_MG_4218

Some details of the outfit.

_MG_4207

She kept inventing ideas off this camisole and silver cord.

_MG_4211

Then she pulled the camisole down. Most of these images are her posing without too much direction.

_MG_4231

Raylinn seems to be a natural model, at least for this genre and very flexible

4249

The lighting was all wrong for the Yogi shoot so I moved the couch in front of the black paper while she played with a hank of hemp.

©4428

Kiss ‘keep it simple’ one light coming from the left and she played with it

_MG_4451

better than some models I’ve shot with. What makes a professional model professional?

_MG_4460

All I had to do was pull the trigger and a bit of editing here and there

_MG_4471

she knew where her audience was

©4479

This turned out to be a lot of fun

_MG_4484

She had to run, probably to another shoot so we never got to see any images together

©4478

but we made another date to shoot some more and show and go thru her images. After all this creation was partly hers, as I said all I did was turn on the lights and press the  thingamajig on the camera.

I had to cancel that shoot but we texted each other saying yes she wanted to work again but I never heard from her again. One of her Model Mayhem portfolios disappeared in a puff of smoke. I again texted her asking if she was alright again but no answer.

Some things disappear vanish into thin air. A mystery leaving behind a few pixels as proof, proof of what? Are these moments reality I am never sure. I had forgotten about these images but now they are here.

What I found out later is she’s decided to go in and entirely different direction trying Fashion instead of art nudes. That’s fine with me but she could have said that to me. Then I would have understood, it’s no skin off my nose.

She does have two Model Mayhem sites https://www.modelmayhem.com/4216678 for art/nude and another for fashion https://www.modelmayhem.com/Reylynn

We all have to eat and we can choose whom to sit with.

Darkness returns

March 3, 2017

Someone asked me if i’d be interested in working with her putting together her portfolio so we swapped the body painting which I wrote about earlier here for a session of these darker images. I really love creating, I really think it’s a disease, but I like it.

_mg_3843

Woman with flogger

_mg_4011

Blue fan with white flowers

This model is quirky as I never know if and when I’ll see or hear from her. It’s not that I am paying her for her time she asked me if I wouldn’t mind shoot some images for her web site. We all have our own lives and things go on that we have no control over. She’s been pretty understanding, after all she put up with me pouring paint on her body and then taking I guess 4 or 6 showers to clean up.

I know she’s in school and has a job and just trying to start up a business so it’s time for me to be a little understanding.

I do enjoy working with her because she has a playful side of her that comes out, life isn’t all that serious. I should talk having two stomach ulcers but what’s parenthood for?

_mg_3954

Black leather top

I enjoy spending time with her creating,  but with digital since I throw most of the lousy pictures away I don’t worry about cost. We do go over her proofs, likes and dislikes, then I add mine.

She is a Dominate woman so some of these outfits are geared towards that lifestyle. I really don’t care so much about what people do for pleasure as long as they treat me well.

bw3667

Look what I’ve got for you

Some of the images I edit I fool around with colors etc, or I just play with levels as this one

_mg_3982

We both like this outfit  and I think it works better I color than B&W

I played with NIK silver software on this image, I think this turned out a bit different than plain old B&W.

_mg_3919

Powerful pose but just one man’s opinion. At least I don’t have to edit 2000 pictures like someone I know.

_mg_3961

I wonder what she keeps in the bag?

_mg_3938

_mg_3876

these last two images I love especially the last one.

_mg_3814

Yes they are black lace panties

I think this image below typifies what I think our acting boy child President needs.

_mg_3843

Come here Donny mommy has something for you.

So what happens in these sessions is we begin talking, dressing,  shooting. Lets try this, oh could we do this and so on until either one of tires out usually it’s me. It’s not brain surgery just a couple of people having fun creating a play world. This time I checked my shutter speed, live and learn.

Grey day play

December 12, 2016

Be forewarned there is female nudity here so if it offends you leave before viewing.

The other day a traveling model from Model mayhem recontacted me about shooting together and this has been a slow month maybe even longer than a month since shooting and I liked a couple of her portfolio pictures and I though, why not? I just had a cancelation on another shoot and I was ready. I do get excited about shoots even a headshot, my wife describes this as nervous but I think of it as anticipation which I think we artists all share. Will I be good enough, will what ever I am planing work, will people laugh at me? They have. Taking photos isn’t a life and death situation unless it is.

As you can read latter in this post how I screwed up during this session. Oh well.

Zi rang my bell 7 minutes before the arranged time, that’s a positive sign which means she’s professional and a smart lady even caught some type o’s in my model release, cool. We talked about makeup well lipstick color which she applied while I pulled down the paper. Then we looked through some clothes I had and made a pile to try.

_mg_3282

Beginning with this jacket I don’t remember having, it’s nice to discover something new. I really didn’t need to direct her because she would go from pose after hearing the click of the shutter. I see I should have fixed her face as it looks rough in this pose. I do try and make women look nice, must be something I got from my mother.

_mg_3324

Since the lighting is mostly set up I usually turn on and turn off units as needed. Which gets boring and I keep telling myself I need to  get out of this rut. But here I go again.

_mg_3320

I don’t think she ever said no to anything I suggested. A lovely pleasant young woman easy to work with.

_mg_3368

_mg_3355

_mg_3408

She did most of the work all I did was plug and unplug things and push the shutter. She had some Shibari rope work in her portfolio and I had asked her if she was up for it. ‘Sure’. She has her own rigger which is a bit intimidating to me the beginner.

_mg_3423

This is what I came up with her. I’ve always wanted to do a braided tie like this, I don ‘t know the names these ties but go on the visual effect

_mg_3421

not too bold but interesting for just one rope length. There feels as something is incomplete with this tie as it goes around the waist with no beginning nor end. Is there ever?

_mg_3451

we tried on the different clothes again. Someone had given me this headdress awhile ago but never found the opportunity I think it works here.

_mg_3453

We talked during the shoot to loose the Voyeuristic quality of the moments and to become human beings and not objects. I guess Zi would be called a ‘rope bunny’ which is what women are called who enjoy the freedom of being bound.

_mg_3493

Zi has a boyfriend and a different rope play partner/rigger receiving different needs from both. Working with these women is so insightful for me from the first woman who said she enjoyed being tied up. That surprised me somewhat as we had never talked about that before. But the more I learn the more I know.

_mg_3473

That there is a freedom and delicacy in not being in charge. Hell I get that feeling of not being in charge when ever I go to work at the Beacon as soon as I leave the house.

_mg_3468

At some point in time I accidentally moved the sync shutter speed out of sync with the flash units, going up to 250 from Canon 200. Check, check, check remember to take off lens cap.Check shutter speeds.

As you can see here the right side of the above picture is dark because stupid me didn’t check the shutter speed as I had moved it off the sync speed. Imagine my chagrin when looking at them in bridge.Sometimes I shoot bigger thinking I will crop latter but then I get so involved I forget, oops.So a few didn’t make the HD.

_mg_3509

This one only the chair is darker so no big deal

_mg_3517

But most of this series on the rug is trash as you can see below.Ugh

bad-3605

bad-3585

I am glad someone wasn’t paying me for this shoot. All though I did pull something out of this but nothing is perfect. Oh well.

bad-3638

bad-3635

These below I managed to save  because of cropping

_mg_3577-copy

Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. What I was trying to do here is show off this lovely woman who had worked so hard for me.

zi-3603

It wasn’t an unproductive afternoon for neither of us. I learned an important part of photography check, check, check everything. I always say it not quantity but quality

_mg_3581-copy

so if I only get a few pictures I can use fine. This afternoon I connected with another human being and made a few enjoyable pictures. _mg_3619

So this is all I have to share today. I hope my few readers enjoy my efforts. At least two of us walked away with something we came for. Then as planned I took a nap.

Playing around with a new phase

November 7, 2016

It seems as if I’ve forgotten things I knew just a few moments ago. My computer is going wacky on me and every time I think it’s fixed out it goes. Even logging into fuzzy was a challenge trying to connect with a model via home I got a message call back later.

But the new phase is exploring how a liquid medium flows across a solid body, seems simple enough. But things don’t always go the way you envision them.

But when you’re just fooling around what ever you get is fun. This picture shows the whole set up having her set on a black covered bench against black backdrop. The clean up was done on her taking a shower between colors and cleaning the floor and blending in CS PS6.

_mg_3175

We were alone and we would set her position  I poured the paint then grabbed the camera and shot a few pictures. Then off to the shower to wash her off while I cleaned off the set.

Some colors worked better than others or we were getting into it more.

Tattoo and Shibari/Kinbaku experience

October 5, 2016

The other day a Model Mayhem male model contacted me about shooting some Time For Pictures shoot. His only request is that his face not be recognizable. They don’t call me Fuzzypictures for nothing, sure I am up for it.

For those who don’t know what Shibari is It’s an ancient Japanese art form developed during the Samari time for bonding their prisoners with rope. It is also referred to as the art of Kinbaku a sensual provocative form of Japanese erotic bondage now becoming popular in America.

That day and still today my flash receivers were acting wooky. Sometimes they worked sometimes not, so exposure was all over the place and I had a lot of over exposed throw aways along with some surprises.

I’ve wanted to add some spooky Images to Peau magazine for the autumn issue sort of as a theme and thought the tattoo’s might do the trick. Who knows what works and what doesn’t?

Tattooed male grasping his head and shoulders.

I haven’t gotten around to trying to adjust the over exposed images yet and maybe I won’t it’s a lot of work finding interesting people and shooting them then selecting images we both like.

_mg_2603

Dark Zen

We chatted about our likes and dislikes but I never asked him the story of why so many tattoo’s. We did exchange information about who some of the tattoo artists were both his and mine where done as I shot.

_mg_2636

Darkk Zen

If I don’t know and like the person ‘I am out of there.’ I am way too old to be uncomfortable anymore, been there done that. My work is about collaboration with the model around a theme, if there is one, I couldn’t do this type of photography without the model having ‘some chops’ as they say in jazz.

_mg_2683

Dark Zen

I need to fix those strobes but this White Lightning 1200 Ultra keeps on kicking, I’ve only two left out of four but what a light.I didn’t need to give him much if any direction as he does this out of love also. I did show him images as we went along so he had an idea of what I was shooting.

_mg_2703

Bamboo pole

We fooled around with this pole for awhile but it didn’t do anything for me not that we didn’t get some interesting shots of his hands holding the pole but I wanted some more so ‘Hey lets try this’ my favorite saying.

_mg_2743

Detail

I am reading a book called The Beauty of Kinbaku a history of the art and artists which got me thinking about what’s Japanese and one of the first think that comes to mind is Bamboo, so I go down to the flower district and find some. Who knew there was a vicious spider living in them and bit me on the elbow while I napped. Yeow some poison I sprayed the whole lot. I don’t like to kill spiders but he attacked me first.

_mg_2745

Dark Zen

Well I’ve saved the best for last, although they were the first images we shot we both loved all of these but the first images blew me away. I looked at them and said ‘that’s it.’ I am not sure I could have planed them any better.

_mg_2552

But wait there is more, our first picture below.

_mg_2578

What am I holding?

Yep that Ultra 1200 is something. This is from one of our first images sets. See I couldn’t do this without someone aware of the creative process.
