JPG mag ‘Breast, we need to support them’ 1st place contest winner

October 28, 2012

here is something i found in my mailbox from JPG  in the form as a rejection and to my pleasant surprise when i followed the link was to find my honey was the first place winner. woohoo

this is from mary’s blog ny metro  art scene

I’m a darn good photographer, at least I think so and so does JPG.  I can’t remember how long ago it was that I entered JPG’s “Breasts, We Need to Support Them” international juried competition but one of my images was awarded 1st place.  Whoo-hoo.  I had just closed my email when Jene went on his and said honey… your image was awarded first place.  I remained calm, cool and collected on the outside while doing the “happy dance” internally.

I went to bed with feelings of grandeur, maybe utter joy with a smattering of pride of acknowledgment would be more like it.  But it felt good.

(For those who don’t know that I finally dropped my ex’s name and took on my husband’s last name, sorry for any confusion…  Mary Durante Wehrhahn and Mary Durante Youtt are one in the same person, I assure you.)

Sunday, November 4th, my work will be exhibiting along with my husband’s (Jene Youtt) at The Monroe Center for the Arts,  720 Monroe Street, Hoboken,  NJ  from noon until 6pm.  Stop by… get a jump on some Holiday Shopping.   Give the gift of art…  It says a lot about you and the person you are giving it to.

Happy Day!

trying something new for me, sensual couple shoot

October 28, 2012

the constant quest in my work is finding the right people to work with me, considering my limited budget, so what i find mostly are people just starting out who are willing to work for what i can afford. free is good but only worth what the value of the final product. sometimes the magic works sometimes it doesn’t. this couple was willing to experiment with me and since they are intimate what i was asking wasn’t much of a push, just basically be yourself with a tog in the room. doesn’t everyone have strobes flashing every once in a while concentrating on their partner. very natural setting.

i’ve no idea if this works more than my previous post where i am working on a different story. this setting isn’t what i preferred but it was where we were. i’d much rather had a living room or bedroom for a more natural feeling. from the lack of comments here considering the traffic on the site i don’t know what to think you think. so like most of life lived i am working in the dark.  i guess it’s appropriate since this is personal work. i am the one who needs to be happy and if i haven’t learned that by now i should just go off to a cave and sit down to rest.

embrace

there isn’t much i can say that doesn’t appear in these images they are posed from my suggestions. but mostly i tried to be a fly on the wall giving them a premise for them to work with and watched.

the double copyright is because i am working off their CD and running a action in PS because i didn’t want to resize the images. oh well lazy tog.  what i wanted to do with this session is explore the eroticism of a couple without being graphic or pornographic.

tenderness

touching tasting

tension

let us not forget we have a couple here so it’s time to see the other side of love

white thigh highs

and the final one here as she seems to really enjoy being touched

wonder what she’s thinking

who knows why people come to this site and see the images. do they all wear raincoats and sit in darken rooms? well as we wait for Sandy to come a calling we might be soon wearing raincoats ourselves. so before the power goes out i’ll post this then relax reading the sunday times and wonder who the hell are these people they are talking about. has the world gone to the dogs? i for one like dogs so maybe i should rephrase that to cats. dogs are more loving i think than cats who seem not to need very much from us. just my humble opinion.

so if i am able to record tenderness between people then i’ve been successful if not at least no one was harmed in the making of these images. i hope you my readers have enjoyed your valuable time spent here.

days of the dead and living……… halloween is just around the corner

October 25, 2012

life is moving around me like an alaskan spring river melt and i am dancing as fast as i can to keep up. this is one of my favorite times of the year with the changing of season, trees of many colors, wonderful leaves underfoot, i love the patterns and colors. even cars parked on new york city streets importing  country leaves on their hoods reminding me of the beauty of death, which without we may not be here. imagine a world which nothing died. would we have a place to stand?

i am just a photographer who found a few spare dollars in order to pay a couple advertizing on craigslist looking for work. i’ve not done a shoot in a while, sometimes months even then i never catch up to my life. seems there is always something to do. is this going to be another season i never get out of the city to sit among the colorful countryside? looks that way. but i’ve got some sort of style here about non communication which these picture are about.

more living sculptures

I’ve been a member of One Model Place for a year and now a member of Model Mayhem where i try and find people to work with. i am more successful on craigslist. i find a lot of the people on these sites to be ‘want to bes’ aren’t serious to say the least, even though they write they are artist. i had another flake text me saturday she couldn’t make a shoot we had set up ten days in advance. instead she did a bloody skull shoot in albany ny.

a tog friend had four for four no shows this week from model mayhem. so i’ve come to think that most of them are full of sh…t. but i still need models.

Ghost kiss

so where do i go? these people are just starting out modeling but they are an intimate couple and pretty open whether or not they understood where i was coming from. i sent these images and haven’t heard from them yet. they did cash the check and sign a model release.

just for fun i submitted the above image to Calumet photo ‘Photo of the Month‘ contest. fat chance of it being selected as october is over, i just like to stimulate the judges.

the embrace

we all had a few laughs along the way of the session, i got a few images out of the two hours but not really the pic i have a envisioned of but it all wasn’t a waste of time and no children or animals were hurt which is always a good thing.

taking her into my arms

below is one of my favorite images. i was going for something sensual between this couple which i think happens here.

embrace

but then we changed roles

longing

while they are not actors being an intimate couple helps in projecting the emotion that interests me. but you the viewer are the final judge here.

scream

trying to do the shooting, lighting, props and styling is a pretty challenging job. yes i played in photoshop for a long day putting together the shoot playing with this slider then that one so what you see here is what i came up with. tomorrow i may change my mind.

come to me softly

so here is the naked truth of what i had to work with, not bad but also not optional for what i was looking for, but all in all a nice couple of kids.

nude couple

 i do like the way sam looks at kat.

it’s late in the evening and i am off to photo expo tomorrow to meet mary and another friend who is an important mentor for us whom we met on another photo sharing site who’s company attends the expo every year.

cinema as we know it………………. isn’t anymore….. RIP 1888-2011

October 8, 2012

this almost brings a tear to my eyes and surely the days spent in hollywood floating back in front of my memory. the kodak adv say it all to me and yes there is still some motion picture film being made, the problem is there are no students learning how to use it. but they call themselves filmakers. today i read that Kodak has stopped making t-max p3200 and Fuji has stopped velvia 50 & 100.  i guess adobe will just have to make more plug-ins for photoshop 8.

Film is beautiful. It’s going to be around for years to come. Plenty of feature films and TV shows are still being shot on film, and used film cameras will remain a viable rental market for a long time. But in the last several months, the major manufacturers of motion picture cameras — ARRI, Panavision and Aaton — have all ceased production of film cameras. Celluloid, you’ve had a great 123-year run. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Here, then, one last ad for film from Kodak, for nostalgic purposes:

 You could pick apart so many quotes here, from Brett Ratner talking up film even though his latest, Tower Heist, was partially shot on the ARRI ALEXA, to anyone who says film has greater dynamic range (the ALEXA has the same DR, and RED’s HDRx exceeds it). Not to mention that 4K cameras meet or exceed film’s resolution, which is not to say that digital cameras are objectively better in terms of pure aesthetics — the texture and highlight detail of film are still magical — but cost and workflow-wise, digital has come a long way and will continue to improve to the point where it’s not just a matter of meeting film’s image capture capabilities but exceeding it. Here’s the word from Aaton and Panavision

[Aaton founder Jean-Pierre] Beauviala believes that that stereoscopic 3D has “accelerated the demise of film.” He says, “It’s a nightmare to synchronize two film cameras.” Three years ago, Aaton introduced a new 35mm film camera, Penelope, but sold only 50 to 60 of them. As a result, Beauviala turned to creating a digital Penelope, which will be on the market by NAB 2012. “It’s a 4K camera and very, very quiet,” he tells us. “We tried to give a digital camera the same ease of handling as the film camera.”

Panavision is also hard at work on a new digital camera, says Phil Radin, Executive VP, Worldwide Marketing, who notes that Panavision built its last 35mm Millennium XL camera in the winter of 2009.

One thing I don’t buy at all is people saying that the best way to archive digital material is on film. Sure, there are plenty of concerns about codecs going in and out of use, but you’re telling me that physical celluloid, which is subject to the ravages of time, temperature, fire, mishandling, and accidents, is a better archival material than 1s and 0s which can be stored as exact lossless copies in many locations? If you’re worried about future-proofing your codec choices, output your archival file in several formats. Not to mention that you can keep the NLE timeline and source files in the digital realm, though good luck opening that FCP7 timeline in Final Cut Pro X! Point for film, I guess.

Anyway, we’re going to see plenty of films shot on celluloid for years to come, but for all intents and purposes the last motion picture film camera has already been manufactured. Check out both articles below for more. Onward and upward!

New comet discovered- may become one of the brightest in history……. until a brighter one comes along

If astronomers’ early predictions hold true, the holidays next year may hold a glowing gift for stargazersa superbright comet, just discovered streaking near Saturn.

Even with powerful telescopes, comet 2012 S1 (ISON) is now just a faint glow in the constellation Cancer. But the ball of ice and rocks might become visible to the naked eye for a few months in late 2013 and early 2014—perhaps outshining the moon, astronomers say.

The comet is already remarkably bright, given how far it is from the sun, astronomer Raminder Singh Samra said. What’s more, 2012 S1 seems to be following the path of the Great Comet of 1680, considered one of the most spectacular ever seen from Earth.

“If it lives up to expectations, this comet may be one of the brightest in history,” said Samra, of the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, Canada.

So what makes a comet a showstopper? A lot depends on how much gas and dust is blasted off the central core of ice and rocks. The bigger the resulting cloud and tail, the more reflective the body may be.

Because 2012 S1 appears to be fairly large—possibly approaching two miles (three kilometers) wide—and will fly very close to the sun, astronomers have calculated that the comet may shine brighter, though not bigger, than the full moon in the evening sky.

(Also see “New Comet Found; May Be Visible From Earth in 2013.”)

Refugee From the Edge of the Solar System?

First spotted late last week by Russian astronomers Artyom Novichonok and Vitali Nevski of the International Scientific Optical Network (ISON), comet 2012 S1 was confirmed by the International Astronomical Union on Monday.

But while we know what 2012 S1 is, it’s still unclear where it came from. Its orbit suggests the comet may be a runaway from the Oort cloud, where billions of comets orbit about a hundred thousand times farther from the sun than Earth is.

“For astronomers, these distant origins are exciting,” Samra said, “because it allows us to study one of the oldest objects in the solar system still in its original, pristine condition.”

(Related: “Comet Is Cosmic Snow Globe, NASA Flyby Shows.”)

New Comet Bound for Glory?

Right now, 2012 S1 appears to be about 615 million miles (990 million kilometers) from Earth, between the orbits of Saturn and Jupiter, astronomers say.

As the sun’s gravity pulls the comet closer, it should pass about 6.2 million miles (10 million kilometers) from Mars—possibly a unique photo opportunity for NASA’s new Curiosity rover.

Current orbital predictions indicate the comet will look brightest to us in the weeks just after its closest approach to the sun, on November 28, 2013—if 2012 S1 survives the experience.

As the comet comes within about 1.2 million miles (2 million kilometers) of the sun, the star’s intense heat and gravity could cause the ice and rubble to break apart, scotching the sky show. (Related: “Comet Seen Vaporizing in Sun’s Atmosphere—A First.”)

“While some predictions suggest it may become as bright as the full moon, and even visible during the day, one should be cautious when predicting how exciting a comet may get,” Samra said.

“Some comets have been notorious for creating a buzz but failing to put on a dazzling display,” he said. “Only time will tell.”

more nude females and a few ideas about love

October 4, 2012

ok after posting this i can take a break maybe do some exercises, go for walk anything to get me away from computer. the lights not right to do construction shoot today but tomorrow should be sunny which is what i need.

this morning i did final, odd word final, is anything final, especially in the creative world ? but good word for now which gives me breathing room in my life. every day, if i am lucky enough to have finished the last one i put together a ‘to do list’ otherwise my monkey mind will take me on some pretty weird journeys. the list keeps me on track.

last weeks ‘Men in raincoats’ shoot happened and i am just finishing up my edits. notice i didn’t say final.  i contacted the model and asked for her email but i probably have than on the release, duh. two hours is all i can spend shooting nowadays before i get bored with nudes. this woman had a clock running inside of her which was fine, bing two hours up.

i’ll put then up in no real order then see how it looks

smoking female

and here is the original

original

i like the smoke better than plain old no-seam paper

i got a great comment the other day from a chicago tog who shared another web hosting site musecube years ago but that when downhill because of the quality of work posted in it’s latter day.paying customers aren’t always the best ones, but there was time when that was a cool community. i learned so much there from guys & gals from around the world. they all shared their expertise and critiques. everyone did something different but in the same field. my problem with musecube was the google ranking somewhere on the 5 or 7th page for my site. great layout but poor customer service.

eck more smoke

i was reminded how infrequently people have kind words uttered into their ears in this hub a bub me world. where did this rush around the world come from? don’t we remember what it’s like to be held ? to be told we are good people ? that we are loved ? does thinking about someone else really take that much time ? away from what ? isn’t living on this planet about sharing ?

alan watts once said the reason we have skin is so we can touch the world, or we’d just ooze out all over the place and make a big mess.

flexible

i am lucky to have someone in my life to share it with. it”s been a long long time trying to build a life alone and this way is much much better. i never realized the difference between my ideal and real life. yes i knew there is no different between giving and receiving both being the same action until i found a truly giving person.it does make a difference and makes getting out of bed in the morning worthwhile. i must recommend this to those readers out there who are thinking about relationships. if you reach out to someone they just might reach back to you. that’s how it works.

back

i know i know more cloth?

so now i feel as if i’ve done my work for this morning even tho it’s early afternoon and can go on living my life. the men in raincoats are happy, i guess they are in raincoats because looking at the search terms showing that lots of people find their way to fuzzypictures through nude female queries. nude this, nude that. oh well if i didn’t make nudes then they wouldn’t come here and it does look like rain out there.

don’t forget photoexpo is this month get you free floor exhibit pass here. see all the latest in camera gear you can’t afford.

sums up todays feelings, to autumn

October 3, 2012

this is very much how i feel today, it’s grey and uninspiring out there. i’ve got a boring photo assignment  that won’t stop an illegal building practice but will do it anyway and looking through my last photo session i got bubkas so try a ps filter and this is what i got so far.

B&W nude

not really what one might associate with the poem below but the first line by john keats caught feelings perfectly.

      John Keats (1795-1821)

TO AUTUMN.

1.
SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness,

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

2.
Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?

Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find

Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,

Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;

Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,

Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook

Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:

And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep

Steady thy laden head across a brook;

Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,

Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

3.
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?

Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—

While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,

And touch the stubble plains with rosy hue;

Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn

Among the river sallows, borne aloft

Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;

And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;

Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft

The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;

And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.
